11th National People's Congress () is in session from 2008 to 2013. It is scheduled to hold five plenary sessions in this period, occurring around early March every year. There are 2,985 deputies to this Congress.
The 1st Plenary Session
The First Plenary Session was held in 2008. It re-elected
Hu Jintao as President and
Wen Jiabao as Premier.
Xi Jinping was elected Vice-President. The
State Council, China's cabinet, went through major restructuring.
The 2nd Plenary Session
The Congress held its 2nd annual meeting from March 5—13, 2009, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. This congress tackled issues such as the worsening global financial crisis, attempted to introduce a new social welfare system, as well as checks and balances on public officials.
The 3rd Plenary Session
The Congress will hold its 3rd annual meeting in March 2010, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The 4th Plenary Session
The Congress will hold its 4th annual meeting in March 2011, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
