15th Field Regiment, RCA is a
Primary Reserve Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) regiment located in
Vancouver,
British Columbia, at the
Bessborough Armoury. 15th Field Regiment is part of the
39 Canadian Brigade Group of
Land Force Western AreaThis unit is not the same 15th Field Artillery Regiment (
4th Canadian Armoured Division) that served in the
Second World War, but was a designated coastal defence regiment defending Vancouver.
History
2 February 1920: Unit formed as 15th Brigade, Canadian Field Artillery.Equipped with
18-pounders,
60-pounders, and howitzers.
3 June 1935: Unit designated as 15th Field Brigade, RCA.
7 April 1938: Unit converted to coast artillery. Known as 15th Coast Brigade, RCA.Tasked with defending Vancouver and the northern approach to the mainland from Vancouver Island. 15th Coast Brigade manned
Point Grey, Ferguson Point (
Stanley Park), Narrows North (
North Vancouver), and
Yorke Island. Armed with 18-pounders,
12-pounders, and guns.
1 April 1946: Name change to 15th Coast Regiment, RCA.
5 February 1948: Unit converted to field artillery. Known as 15th Field Regiment, RCA.Originally equipped with
25-pounders and 155 mm guns, these were later replaced by 105 mm
C1 Howitzers and then 105 mm C3 Howitzers.
