Adam Nicholas Barrett born (29 November 1979) is a professional footballer who plays for Bournemouth.


Barrett went to school at Belfairs High School in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex and he supported West Ham United as a child. He has previously played for Bristol Rovers, Mansfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Southend United.

Barrett joined Southend United, on a free transfer at the beginning of the 2004–05 season and quickly established himself as a fan's favourite. He scored 11 goals in his first season with the Blues, an astonishing amount for a centre-back, and was voted Player of the Year by Southend fans.

Barrett played also played a key part in Southend's rise to the Championship in 2005–06 and the Football League Trophy in 2005.

Barrett scored a goal in an FA Cup third round replay against Chelsea, although Southend United would go on to lose the match 4–1.

On 24 June 2010 Barrett, along with Southend teammate Alan McCormack had their contracts cancelled by mutual consent. Barrett signed a two-year contract for Crystal Palace on 6 July.

On 11 March 2011, Barrett returned on a month's loan to his first club Leyton Orient.

Barrett signed a two year deal with Bournemouth on 5 July 2011. Barrett scored against his former club in a pre-season friendly against them on the 30th of July.
