Ahluwalia () is one of twelve SikhMisls, or fighting clans, founded by the misldar (leader of the misl) Jassa Singh Ahluwalia of Jat family, in mid-eighteenth century Punjab, who also found the Kapurthala State. Some Hindu Punjabis also use Ahluwalia as their last name.
History and traditions
The term Ahluwalia came into use after the rise of a resident of the Ahlu village (located 11 miles S.E. of Lahore), Jassa Singh Ahluwalia as a misldar of the Sikh Empire of Punjab was the first Ahluwalia or Walia. Hence his descendants and followers came to be known by Ahluwalia or Walia in urban areas. Nowadays Ahluwalia's are categorized in to the Rajput/Jatt castes. Later, descendants of other non-Sikh residents of the village also started using Ahluwalia, now a sizable community among Punjabis.They are regarded in vey ROYAL communities in PUNJAB..some come under the JATT clans and many of them are hindus
