The Air Transport Association of America, Inc. (ATA) is America's oldest and largest airline trade association. ATA’s member airlines and their affiliates transport more than 90 percent of U.S. airline passenger and cargo traffic. U.S. airlines founded the association in 1936 and it is based in Washington, D.C.


ATA advocates on behalf of the airline industry to the U.S. Congress, state legislatures, the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration. ATAhas played a major role in all government decisions concerning aviation since its founding, including the creation of the Civil Aeronautics Board, the creation of the air traffic control system and airline deregulation.Torbinson, Erik.
