Dr.Ali Mohamed Shein
(born 13 March 1948) Currently the 7th President of Zanzibar
and the first President ever from Pemba Island (a sister island's of Unguja.) The former Vice President
is originally from the island of Pemba
. Dr.Shein is a member of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi
(CCM) party. He is a medical doctor by profession.
Early life and Career
Shein started his primary education and GCE “O” Level,from 1956–1964 at Lumumba College, Zanzibar.In 1969–1970 he joined Preparatory Faculty, Voronezh State University, USSR for “A” Level High Education before he took an undergraduate course from 1970–1975 at Odessa State University, USSR 1984–1988. Dr. Shein attained A Master of Science
in Medical Biochemistry at the Medical School University of Newcastle Upontyne England, U.K.Dr.Shein was awarded Doctor of Philosophy
(Ph.D) in Clinical Biochemistry and Metabolic Medicine, specializing in “Inborn Errors of Metabolism”. He also attended Others qualification in 1981 (Blood Transfusion Services and Operation of Blood Bank, Stockholm, Sweden 1994), A course in Management and Situation Leadership, Dar es Salaam 1995 : Planning for HIV/AIDS in Developing Countries; University of East Anglia.
