The unicameralAssembly of the Union of the Comoros is the country's legislative body.
The current Assembly of the Union, formed following elections held on 18 and 25 April 2004, has a total of 33 members. 18 member are directly elected in single member constituencies using the two-round (or run-off) system. The local assemblies on each of the three islands indirectly elect the remaining 15 members. All members serve five-year terms.Note: The Camp of the Autonomous Islands is not a formal political party, but a coalition of opposition groups organized by the three island presidents and opposed to union president Azali Assoumani.
