Maj. Gen. Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri, AVSM (Retd), also known as
Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri or
B.C. Khanduri, (
Sanskrit: भुवन चन्द्र खंडूरी; born 1 October 1934) was the
chief minister of
Uttarakhand from March 8, 2007 to June 24, 2009. He was also a member of the
14th Lok Sabha of
India. He represented the
Garhwal constituency of
Uttarakhand and is a member of the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party. He is also a former minister in the Indian federal government.
Early life
Born in 1934 in
Dehradun in
Uttarakhand he studied at
Allahabad University,
College of Military Engineering, Pune, Institute of Engineers, New Delhi and Institute of Defence Management, Secunderabad.
Army career
He served in Corps of Engineers,
Indian Army from 1954 to 1990. In 1982 he was conferred
Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) by the President of India for distinguished services in the Indian Army.
Entry into Politics
After retirement he joined politics and was elected to
Lok Sabha from
Garhwal in
Uttarakhand in 1991 and in subsequent elections.
He was the minister of state (with independent charge) of the Road, Transport and Highways Ministry from 2000 to 2003 in the government headed by
