Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University is a Central University located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The university is named after Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar, the chief architect of the Indian Constitution. Being one of the youngest central universities, the university aims to promote advance knowledge by providing higher standards of instructional and research facilities.

The School for Environmental Sciences (SES) is an important interdisciplinary faculty with an objective to include advanced studies and innovative research in various aspects of environmental sustainability. It aims to evolve as a Center of Excellence on issues pertaining to environmental issues and challenges of the contemporary world, spheres securing sustainable development of the country emphasizing on improved environmental resources. The Department of Environmental Science (DES) under SES is running 2-years full-time M.Sc. Environmental Science since its inception in July 1997. It has started another 2 years M.Sc. course from the Session 2007-08 as Environmental Microbiology with emphasis on industrial waste management.
