Botany Bay is a hamlet on the northern outskirts of Greater London, and forms part of the London Borough of Enfield. It has a population close to 200. The hamlet is located on the Ridgeway not far from the M25 motorway and in the centre of Enfield Chase. Botany Bay is recorded thus on Greenwood's map of 1819. Its remoteness from other settlements probably explains its name, as a facetious reference to Botany Bay in Australia.Mills. A. D. Oxford Dictionary of London Place Names (2001) p26 ISBN 0-19-860957-4 Retrieved 23 October 2008

The village has a public house, a farm with a well stocked shop and a cricket club which is housed in East Lodge Lane which shares its facilities with Latymer Old Boys FC.
