Breno was a member of the Brazilian Olympic U-23 national team. After making their first team, he signed a new four year contract with São Paulo
in July 2007.
In December 2007, Breno officially signed for Bayern Munich for the release clause of 12 million euro, signing a four and a half year deal with the German
side.Along with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid
were also interested in signing the Brazilian youngster.
Breno was recommended to Bayern Munich by one of their former players, Giovane Élber
