The Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs

including the arts and architecture as well as lottery funding form part of this portfolio. Ministerial responsibilities also include Historic Scotland
, Scotland's Built Heritage, Gaelic
and the Scottish Governments' major events strategy.
The post of Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture
was created after the SNP's victory in the Scottish Parliament election, 2007
. The post remained filled until after the Scottish Parliament election, 2011
