California's 31st State Senate District is one of 40 Senate Districts. It is currently represented by
Republican Robert Dutton of
Rancho Cucamonga.
District profile
The 31st District includes many fast growing suburban and rural areas in the
Inland Empire portion of the
Los Angeles Metropolitan Area. As this district along with Senate District 32 were drawn to separate Democrat and Republican areas in the non-desert portion of
San Bernardino County, the 31st wraps around the 32nd and includes several distinct communities of interest.
Three-fifths of the district population, or nearly 500,000 residents, lives in San Bernardino County, where there are three distinct sub-regions. The first, with approximately 200,000 residents, is the eastern end of the
Pomona Valley, including the two cities of
Upland and
Rancho Cucamonga. Another 200,000 residents live in the valley on the other side of the wishbone formed by I-15 and I-215, separated by the 32nd's cities of Fontana and Rialto. This includes a handful of new suburbs such as
Redlands,
Highland,
Yucaipa,
Colton,
Grand Terrace, and
Loma Linda. In addition, more Republican parts of
San Bernardino are in the district. Thirdly, the district includes about 100,000 in the
High Desert and Rim of the World areas, including
Lake Arrowhead,
Big Bear, and
Yucca Valley.
The remainder of the district is in
