Capital High School (CHS), commonly referred to as
Capital, is a
public high school in
Olympia, Washington,
USA. It is one of two comprehensive high schools in the
Olympia School District. Capital is located on Olympia's Westside, and serves the entire northwest corner of Thurston County. High School students from the Griffin School District attend Capital.
Remodel
In September 2006 a $24.2m renovation project was completed which included a new student commons, a 1000-seat auditorium, an auxiliary gymnasium, fitness room; and modernization of the library, alternative education, administrative offices, and four pod areas. Currently, the east football field is under construction and will be ready for use in September 2008. Improvements include track resurfacing and reconstruction of the high jump area. The field has been stripped, irrigation systems and drainage installed as well as a new sand base.
Roof Collapse
On Christmas Day , 2008, a large portion of the Capital High School roof covering the library collapsed due to unusually large amounts of snow. Repairs caused winter break to be extended for a week, and students also had many days canceled due to snow on the unstable roof. The roof was fixed in time for the 2009-2010 school year.
