Ccm-l

CCM-L is an international interdisciplinary forum in the format of an electronic mailing list for the discussion of topics related to the specialty of critical care medicine. The list's stated purpose is to enhance access to critical care resources electronically, and to promote clinical and academic discourse. CCM-L's constituency is inclusive: physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, medical ethicists, attorneys, epidemiologists, social workers and students.

At present, the group has over 600 members from around the globe.

History

After gaining some experience on the Anesthesiology mailing list , Dr. David Crippen utilized the GasNet model to develop and implement an international clinical and academic resource for critical care providers. CCM-L was born October 12, 1994, a collaborative effort of Dr. Crippen and Andy Sopchak.

Functions

CCML's 'common and accepted uses' are:

• A Cyber-Consult Service - critical care consultations in real time from experts around the world. Questions regarding ongoing patient care usually generate replies in hours if not minutes following presentation.
• A CCM-L Journal Club - discussion of current critical care literature.
• A CCM-L Forum - discussions of what is happening in the global medical-sociopolitical arena.
