Costel Fane Pantilimon (born February 1, 1987 in Bacău) is a Romanian football player, currently the first-choice goalkeeper at FC Politehnica Timişoara. The 23 year-old is rated in the $7 million class by FC Politehnica Timişoara and is being tracked by Arsenal, Manchester United, Internazionale and lately Schalke 04.

Club career

Early career

Pantilimon started his career at Aerostar Bacău and got his share of limelight at the U19 National team before transferring to Timişoara on February 1, 2006, his nineteenth birthday.

Politehnica Timişoara

Initially Pantilimon was Timişoara's second-choice goalkeeper, behind Marius Popa; however, in May 2008 the owner of the club, Marian Iancu, transferred Popa to the second team, and Pantilimon took the pole position. After his debut in the Romanian Liga 1 against Dinamo Bucharest, in March 2007, rumors surfaced that Pantilimon was being monitored by scouts of Manchester United. Also, in November 2008, Iancu announced that there was a four million Euro offer for the goalkeeper and Romanian media sources reported that Inter Milan was the team to have taken an interest in the player.

In a match against Ceahlăul on October 17, 2009 he captained the team for the first time, since Dan Alexa, Gigel Bucur and the Karamyan brothers were all on the bench.
