D. V. Sadananda Gowda (Kannada,Tulu:ಡಿ.ವಿ.ಸದಾನಂದ ಗೌಡ) (born 18 March 1953)is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Udupi Chikmagalur constituency in Karnataka. He was voted in as the Chief Minister of Karnataka on 3 August 2011 by a secret ballot of legislators of the BJP following the resignation of the previous Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa after being indicted on corruption charges by the Lok Ayukta of Karnataka, Justice Santhosh Hegde. He first came into national prominence in June 2007 when he was one of the key players in the BJP forming their first government South of the Vindyas.

Early life

Sadananda Gowda was born in 1953 to Venkappa Gowda and Kamala belonging to the Kodagu Gowda (Tulu Gowda) ethnic group of Mandekolu Village in Sullia Taluk.

Gowda graduated in Science from the St. Philomena College, Puttur and then went on to obtain his degree in law at Udupi Vaikunta Baliga College of Law. He became active in student politics during this period and was elected as the General Secretary of the Students Union...
