David Batey (1939 – 2001) was a famous jazz musician in the Carlisle area of Cumbria, England.

He started piano tuitions at an early age, which started him for a life in music. After leaving school, he joined the army, and went to study at the Royal Military School of Music (RMSM), at Kneller Hall in Twickenham. During this time he played for the Queen at Buckingham Palace, and learned many instruments.

After leaving the RMSM, he returned to Cumbria. He formed many bands, the most notable being the Dave Batey Trio, which played rock and roll. He composed and re-wrote scores for many bands (mainly big bands), including The Cliff Eland Band. He continued to compose and arrange music through his retirement, until his death in 2001.
