Dhār (

Marathi: धार) is located in the
Malwa region of western
Madhya Pradesh state in central
India. It is the administrative headquarters of
Dhar District. The town is located west of
Mhow, above sea level. It is picturesquely situated among lakes and trees surrounded by barren hills, and possesses, besides its old ramparts, many interesting buildings, both
Hindu and
Muslim, some of them containing records of cultural and historical importance.
Dar or Dhar is a surname among the
Kashmiri Pandits from the state of
Jammu and Kashmir in India. It is also a Bengali surname.

Dhar district has been on the cultural map of India since time immemorial.
