East China University of Political Science and Law (华东政法大学) is a public university in Shanghai, People's Republic of China, founded in 1952.

Campus

The urban campus is located on the campus of the former St. John's University. The new campus that houses the undergraduate students is located in the Songjiang University town adjacent to the six universities Shanghai International Studies University; Donghua University; Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade; Shanghai University of Engineering Sciences; Shanghai Lixin University of Commerce and Shanghai Institute of Visual Art.

History

East China University of Political Science and Law was founded in 1952, is one of few higher education institutions in China specializing in legal education. In the field of legal education, ECUPL enjoys unparalleled influence and prestige in Shanghai, and the greater East China, which is China's most developed geographical division, with its alumni found in virtually every legal profession and institution, such as law firms, governmental agencies, courts, educational institutions etc. However, its influence waned somewhat in recent years due to competition from rival universities in the area, many of which realized the importance of legal education and began to heavily subsidize their law faculty.
