The Economic and Political Weekly (EPW) is a left-leaning Indianmagazine published from Mumbai by the Sameeksha Trust, a charitable trust. The magazine was first published in 1949 as the Economic Weekly (edited by Sachin Chaudhuri) and since 1966 was re-christened the Economic and Political Weekly. It was edited by Krishna Raj for more than three decades. The present editor Dr. C.Rammanohar Reddy.
EPW is known to take leftist stances on current affairs and its pages have for decades been open to writers who have highlighted the challenges facing the disadvantaged.. The belief that EPW has predominantly published articles which are pro-Marxist is a partial view. One article in the EPW argued that the nationalist movement should be "led by the working class by boycotting foreign goods ... and preventing if required physically the entry of MNCs."Stephen Sherlock, , South Asia, June 1988, vol xxi no 1, pp.63-76.
