The Edgar Wallace Mysteries was a low-budget film series made as second features.
They were produced at Merton Park Studios for Anglo-Amalgamated between 1960 and 1965. They were generally loosely based adaptations of original (late Victorian/early twentieth century) stories by Edgar Wallace, ‘updated’ to reflect contemporary settings, probably to obviate the need for costumes and expensive sets.
The opening was a slowly revolving bust of Edgar Wallace to the accompaniment of the Man of Mystery theme, written by Michael Carr. It was later recorded by The Shadows who had a no. 1 hit record in the UK.
They were shown on U.S. television as The Edgar Wallace Mystery Theater.
