Eleanor Maroes is a politician and accountant in
Alberta,
Canada. She is currently the Treasurer of the
Wildrose Party of Alberta. She is also a former interim leader of the
Alberta Alliance Party.
Reform Party
Eleanor Maroes got involved with the
Reform Party of Canada in 1989. She bought a membership from
Preston Manning at an "Axe the Tax" rally, in which she participated in as a volunteer. That same year, she became the Treasurer and shortly thereafter, President of the
Edmonton East riding.
She served on the Board of the Reform Party for Edmonton Southeast riding from 1992 to 1997.Maroes became a federal candidate in
Edmonton Southeast during the
1997 federal election, finishing just behind
David Kilgour for the
Reform Party of Canada in a photo finish race.
Alberta Alliance
Maroes joined the
Alberta Alliance Party at the party's founding in 2002. She first served as Party President from October 2002 to April 2004, then Deputy Leader to November 2004 and President of the Edmonton Region from November 2004 to April 2005.
During the
2004 Alberta provincial election Eleanor Maroes ran in
Edmonton Ellerslie and came up with the best showing for the party in metro
Edmonton.
Maroes was appointed Interim Leader of the Alberta Alliance on April 4, 2005, to take effect on April 15, 2005 when
Randy Thorsteinson stepped down. She served until the November 19, 2005 Leadership convention, where
Paul Hinman was elected.
