Description:
Port Macquarie is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It was represented by independent member Rob Oakeshott from 1996 until his successful election to the Federal Parliament as the Independent Member for Lyne. At the subsequent by-election held on 18 October 2008 Peter Besseling, who is also an independent, was elected as the new Member.

At the 2007 State election, a total of 46,028 electors were enrolled.

The previous member, state Nationals turned independent MP Rob Oakeshott, resigned from the seat in order to contest the Lyne by-election which he won. This triggered a Port Macquarie by-election.

History

Port Macquarie was created in 1988, replacing Oxley (which was recreated in 1991).
