Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) is one of the world's leading nonprofit organizations that was established by Sir Elton John in 1992 in the USA * and 1993 in the UK * supporting innovative HIV/AIDS prevention, education programs, direct care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS.
Since its founding, EJAF has raised over $200 million to support worthy programs in 55 countries around the globe.
EJAF supports its work through proceeds from special events, cause-related marketing projects, and voluntary contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations. It hosts the annuals Academy Award Party.
The organisation was inspired by Elton John's young friend, Ryan White, a young AIDS sufferer infected by a blood transfusion who passed in the early nineties. White's personable and compassionate persona helped to achieve the tolerance and acceptance towards sufferers of the disease that is finally in existence in the world today. Elton John's charity continues this effort.
