The Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut is given by Filmfare as part of its annual Filmfare Awards for Hindi films to recognise a performance by a female actor in a debut role.
Initially, this category came under the "Filmfare Sensational Debut Award" as it represented the male and female category. The award for best female debut first started in 1989 and was titled Filmfare Lux New Face Award (except for a special award, Best Female Debut, given to Tabu in 1995). The Filmfare Lux New Face Award was last given to Preity Zinta in 1999, and in 2001 it was renamed as the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. The renamed award was first given to Kareena Kapoor and that has been its title ever since.
