Frankfurt Airport long-distance station

Frankfurt am Main Flughafen Fernbahnhof (Frankfurt Airport long distance railway station) is a railway station in Frankfurt am Main, Germany that connects Frankfurt International Airport to trains, most of them ICE services following the Cologne–Frankfurt high-speed rail line.

The station was opened in 1999. It measures 660 metres in length and 45 metres in height. It features a large dome containing a lounge area and a ticket hall, and is connected to the airport by a skyway that crosses the A 3. A 1-billion-€ complex containing hotels, convention centers and other facilities (AirRail-Center Frankfurt, now known as ) will be built above the station.

This long distance station should not be confused with Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof (translates from German as Frankfurt Airport Regional station), which is located beneath Terminal 1 of the airport and which provides local S-Bahn services to Frankfurt Central Station and Wiesbaden/Mainz.

Operational usage

Lufthansa passengers can check in at Köln Hauptbahnhof and Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof. This scheme is known as AiRail Service. Trains operating under that scheme have a separate LH number associated with them.<br clear="all" />Lufthansa also has check-in counters within the bridge connecting the railstation with the Terminal.
