She was born to Gültekin and Semiha Şener in 1971 in Cihangir

. She started working for Aktüel
magazine as a correspondent in her second year as an undergraduate. Finally, she graduated from Boğaziçi University as an economist and Aktüel
magazine as an editor in 1994. She went to New York
and studied for a master's degree in the film program of Columbia University
's School of the Arts.
She married Murat Birsel
in August 1999.
She was first noticed through her articles in Turkish newspapers, titled "Metropol Manzaraları" (Views of the Metropolis, "Metropolis" is actually Istanbul), with her easily noticed funny touches of city life. She later presented a comedy show named "G.A.G.". Currently she is the lead actress and scenarist of the sitcom Avrupa Yakası
