Gollaprolu is a municipality and mandal
headquarters. It got its first mandal parishad seat when it was introduced in 1987 under the then chief minister N.T.Rama Rao. Dr.Hemanadha Rao Koppula was elected as the first Mandal president. He served his term from 1987 to 1992. Though a headquarters, it did not have its own mandal office building until 2005, then it was built by the then mandal parishat president Sri Mogali Subrahmanyam
of Gollaprolu had a population of 81,752 in 2005, and 102,170 in 2007. Gollaprolu itself has more than 31,000 voters.
The region is cyclone
-prone, and the people are mostly landless agricultural workers. and is famous for the production of onions, ground nuts, cotton and rice.
