Grover Cleveland High School is a large, comprehensive
high school in
Ridgewood, Queens. Grover Cleveland High School,
Samuel J. Tilden High School,
Abraham Lincoln High School,
John Adams High School, and
Bayside High School were all built during the
Great Depression from one set of blueprints, in order to save money.
Academics
The Mathematics Department
The Mathematics Department has developed its own Saturday Mathematics Program for academic intervention. The Mathematics Department offers Intermediate Algebra, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, both Advanced Placement Calculus AB and BC, Advanced Placement Statistics, and Number Theory.
The Science Department
After a student has mastered the basic state requirements, he or she may enroll in electives and advanced placement courses. The GCHS Science staff focuses on environmental sciences.
The Communication Arts department
Eight credits of English are required for graduation, and each student must pass the NYS English Regent with a score of 65 or better in order to graduate.
The Social Studies Department
Students who are entering high school will be given Global Studies I during the Fall semester and Global Studies II during the Spring semester.
The Bilingual and English as a Second Language department
