Institute of Home Economics is a premier college of the
University of Delhi. It is here that the students are provided with opportunities for academic excellence and cultural enrichment to enable them to build a multi-faceted personality and face the challenges that lie ahead.
History
The Institute of
Home Economics was founded in 1961, by Dr. (Mrs.) S. Malhan, the founder Director, to satisfy the growing urge of the contemporary woman for wider educational and professional avenues. The combined excellence of the educational curriculum, the realistic values and the commitment of its staff members soon saw the Institute establish itself as a leading centre for women’s education in the country.
The Institute became a constituent college of the University of Delhi in the year 1969. Since then, the college has expanded enormously. Though it was started as a Home Science college, today it has expanded its horizons and offers a three-year undergraduate course in Microbiology as well as a four-year integrated course in
Elementary education. From the current
academic year, the college is offering the prestigious three year B.Sc. (Hons) course in Biochemistry. The Institute has had a long journey which started with a two year Diploma course in Home Science, to regular degree courses at the undergraduate and
