ITV West & Westcountry is a non-franchise ITV regional station covering the South West of England and incorporating the former ITV West and ITV Westcountry regions. The new service was launched on 16 February 2009 shortly after the broadcasting regulator Ofcom gave ITV plc the go-ahead to merge the two regions.
The station's main news programme, The West Country Tonight, also launched on the same day. The main evening programme is supplemented by shorter daytime and weekend bulletins and opt-out services for news and weather in the ITV1 West and ITV1 Westcountry regions. ITV West & Westcountry is also required to produce 13 hours of non-news programming a year - currently, the only non-news programme in production is The West Country at Westminster, a monthly political programme.
