Jamal Nazrul Islam () is a famous physicist and mathematician of Bangladesh. Currently he is a professor of Chittagong University and a member of advisory board at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. He is the director of Research Centre for Mathematics and Physical Sciences (RCMPS) at Chittagong University.

Early life

Jamal Nazrul Islam was born February 24, 1939 in Jhenaidah. It's notable that originally his forefathers hailed from Narayanhat union of Fatickchari Upazilla in Chittagong district. He was a student of Chittagong Collegiate School and got double promotion for his outstanding performance. He received his B.Sc. (Honors) degree from the historic University of Calcutta. He further studied at the Trinity College, Cambridge.

Life and career

Jamal Nazrul Islam obtained his PhD from the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of University of Cambridge in 1964. He obtained his DSc from University of Cambridge in 1982. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Maryland from 1963-1965. He was a Staff Member of the Institute of Theoretical Astronomy of University of Cambridge from 1967-1971. He was a Visiting Associate in Physics at California Institute of Technology from 1971-1972.
