Jarvis is a small community in
Haldimand County,
Ontario,
Canada. Jarvis is located near the towns of
Simcoe,
Townsend,
Cayuga,
Port Dover and
Hagersville. It is located at the crossroads of
Highway 3 and
Highway 6.
Facilities
Businesses in the town of Jarvis include a
gas station and several
restaurants, two
convenience stores,
beer and
wine can be found. There is also a
Sears catalogue store and car dealership that also sells motorcycle trikes, a
flower store, a new and gently used children's clothing shop, also a
butcher shop. There is only one
bank in Jarvis (CIBC). Schools include:
Jarvis District Christian School and Jarvis Public School. Jarvis also has a tennis court and baseball diamond and community centre that holds Jack and Jills, Weddings and other events.Jarvis also hosts a festival in August called "Cornfest", which has tonnes of fresh buttered corn to eat, as well many musical acts come to Jarvis to play at the festival. Features
During the second world war an
airstrip and bombing range was constructed in Jarvis for training purposes. In 1955, the runway was converted to an automobile
race track called Harewood Acres. In its time, it was one of the premiere
road race courses in
