Jason Andre Davis Roberts MBE (born 25 January 1978) is a
Grenadian footballer who plays for
Blackburn Rovers as a
striker.
Club career
Early career
Roberts was born in
Central Middlesex Hospital, North West
London. Like his uncle
Cyrille Regis, who is a footballer himself, he began his career in England playing for
Hayes. He made his debut in November 1995, the season Hayes won the
Isthmian League Premier Division. In the 1997–98 season he was sold to
Wolverhampton Wanderers for £250,000, then moving to
Torquay United on loan, where he scored six goals in 13 games. Another loan took him to
Bristol City, where he scored one goal against Oldham in three appearances.
He joined
Bristol Rovers for £250,000 in August 1998. In the
1998–99 season, Roberts scored 16 goals in 37 league appearances, and was one of the top goal scorers in the
FA Cup with a total of seven goals.
