Jessica Hilda Mauboy (born 4 August 1989), is an Indigenous Australian R&B singer-songwriter and actress. Born in Darwin, Northern Territory, Mauboy auditioned for the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006 to pursue a recording career, when she later became the runner-up of the season. Although she did not win the show, Mauboy subsequently signed a recording contract with Sony Music Australia.

In February 2007, she released her debut live album, The Journey, which debuted at number four on the ARIA Albums Chart, and certified Gold by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA). The album contained selected songs Mauboy performed as part of the top-twelve on Idol. Later that year, she became a member of pop girl group Young Divas, before leaving the group in early 2008 to resume her solo career. Mauboy released her debut studio album, Been Waiting, in November 2008, which spawned her first number-one hit single, "Burn", as well as the album's other top-ten hits, "Because" and "Running Back". Been Waiting certified double Platinum, for shipments of 140,000 units, The album earned Mauboy seven nominations at the 2009 ARIA Music Awards, and eventually won "Highest Selling Single" for "Running Back".
