John Ivor Disley (born 20 November 1928) is a former Welsh athlete who competed mainly in the 3000 metressteeple chase. He was born in Corris, a village in Gwynedd. He attended Oswestry Boys High School.
John Disley was an Athlete of great repute; he is responsible for setting five British records in the steeplechase and four at two miles. He also set Welsh records at six different distances. He also broke the record for the traverse of the Welsh 3000 foot peaks.
A Founder of the London Marathon & UK Orienteering Pioneer
He was the leading pioneer of Orienteering in the UK and was one of the founders of the London Marathon. Disley became vice-chairman of the UK Sports Council in 1974, a post he held until 1982.
