Shri K. Rahman Khan, (born 5 April 1939), a chartered accountant turned politician from Karnataka, and a long-time member of the Indian National Congress. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Before holding the post of the Dy Chairman he was the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers. Mr Khan is one of the most prominent Muslim leaders of the country.
Brief Life History
Born to Khasim Khan an school master turned businessman and Khairunnisa (known for her healing treatment to the villagers) at Krishnarajpet, Mandya District of Karnataka. Mr. Khan did his Pre-schooling at a nearby Village, where he use to walk a distance of over 5 km daily. Later he joined Banmaya's College at Mysore, where he used to stay at the Muslim Hostel. After becoming a Commerce Graduate from Mysore University, he turned towards Bangalore and there to Chennai where he took his C.A. Coaching and became the First Muslim Chartered Accountant in the State of Karnataka.
Mr. Khan married to Mrs. Ayesha Rahman a Grand Daughter of a very respectable and successful entrepreneur of the State who had a business spread through the state of Karnataka.
