Description:
Katni (also known as Murwara (Katni) or Mudwara) is a town on the banks of the Katni River in Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the administrative headquarters of Katni District. It is located in the Mahakoshal Region of Central India. The city is away from the Divisional Headquarters of the region, Jabalpur. It is one of largest railway junctions in India and has the largest railyard and biggest diesel locomotive shed in India. The city has an abundance of lime and bauxite.

Demographics

India census, Katni had a population of 186,738. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Katni has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 65%. In Katni, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Education

There are more than thirteen higher secondary schools in Katni. Out of them, more than five are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education and provide education to upper higher secondary level. Colleges offering graduate and postgraduate courses are also present in Katni.

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kannur agricultural university is situated on the NH 7, inside Piprodh village, where along with the transfer of technology and assessment of technology, the quality seed production program of different field crops is undertaken.
