Kaz Cooke (born 1962) is an Australian author and cartoonist. Her books include
Real Gorgeous,
Up the Duff (also published under different titles outside of Australia),
Kidwrangling,
Girl Stuff and
Living with Crazy Buttocks, which won the 2002
Bookseller/Diagram Prize for Oddest Title of the Year. Her works often cover issues of women's health,
body image and self-esteem in an informative yet humorous way. She is the creator of Hermoine the Modern Girl, a cartoon character who features in her books and cartoons. Hermoine appeared on the cover of
The Cane Toad Times Issue 9: Fear & Clothing, Summer 1988.
Cooke has appeared as a columnist for various Australian publications, including
The Age newspaper, over the last decade or more. She has also co-hosted a radio program on the
Austereo network,
Foxy Ladies, with comedian
Judith Lucy.
Cooke has also filled in for
Richard Stubbs on
774 ABC Melbourne.
In 2008, Cooke won the Australian Publishers Association's General Non-fiction Book of the Year for
Girl Stuff.
Girl stuff is aimed at teenage girls and covers everything from friends to money. Her books are printed in many languages (including Latavian where her name appears as Keza Kuza)
