From 1973 to 1978 he was paired with Glyn Worsnip as a presenter on the BBC consumer programme That's Life!, and he has also presented for the same network the science programme Tomorrow's World, on which he famously claimed that the CD was indestructible, demonstrating this by spreading strawberry jam on a copy of the Bee Gees' Living Eyes. He was BBC television's choice for on-site commentator of the first space shuttle mission, reporting from Cape Canaveral and Edwards Air Force Base.
He has received praise for his drama, Care, about child abuse in a Welsh children's home.
