Kunchacko Boban (
Malayalam കുഞ്ചാക്കോ ബോബന്; born in
Alleppey,
Kerala,
India) is an
Indian film actor who works in
Malayalam cinema. He is the grandson of
film producer Kunchacko of the erstwhile Udaya Studios and the grandnephew of producer Maliampurackal
Appachan. He started his career with the commercially successful film
Aniathipravu (1997) produced by
Appachan and directed by
Fazil (though his debut was as a child artist in one of Fazil's films from the early 80s). His roles in
Nakshathrathaarattu (1998),
Mayilpeelikkavu (1998), and
Niram (1999) made him one of the popular
lead actors of the late 1990s.
During the 2000s his notable films include
Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001), the commercially successful
Swapnakoodu (2003), and the critical and commercial hit
Kasthooriman (2003). Although his films struggled at the box office during the mid-2000s, he made a come back with
The Escape (2009) a comedy film starring
Jayasurya.
Career
He became an instant teenage heartthrob following his first film, the Fazil-directed
Aniyathi Pravu (1997). Kunchacko Boban and Shalini gained a reputation as a star pair; they went on to work together in four films. He stood out among the heroes of the late 1990s, when the middle-aged super stars concentrated on action films.
Following the success of
Aniyathi Pravu, Kunchacko Boban was cast in movies like
