KV (Kendriya Vidyalaya) IIT Powai

, a suburb in north western Mumbai.
In 1958, the Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay was created, with retired Brigadier S.K.Bose as its first director. In 1959 the Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation stone of the Powai campus.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan is an autonomous body set up by the Indian Ministry of Education
. To cater to the educational needs of the children of IIT employees, K.V. IIT Powai started functioning with three hundred students on 15 June 1964 under the leadership of Professor S.K. Bose as the first chairman of the Vidyalaya. Shri. S. Ramchandran was the first principal of the Vidyalaya, composed of 25 staff members.
The school has divisions for the Primary, Secondary and Senior Secondary Sections. It is a co-educational institution, with classes from I to XII, affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education
(CBSE), New Delhi.
Over the last forty years, the Vidyalaya has received guidance and support from the ten directors of IIT-Bombay and ten Principals of the Vidyalaya. Attendance is more than two thousand students.
