Kyodo Senpaku

was formed in 1987 (formerly Kyodo Hogei, since 1976) and is a consolidation of earlier whaling departments of Japanese fisheries. The for-profit company conducts the collection, processing and wholesale selling of the whale specimens and meat on behalf of the Institute of Cetacean Research, even though commercial whaling is illegal under IWC law. It is not known how much whale meat is sold per year.
