La the Darkman

La the Darkman is a Wu-Tang Clan affiliated American rapper. He is also a close associate of the Gangsta Grillz series of mixtapes (With DJ Drama) in which he takes on executive duties as well. He is also a cousin of rapper Willie the Kid. He is Co-CEO of The Aphilliates Music group. Spending most of his High School years in the Southeast side of Grand Rapids, Michigan, La the Darkman experienced much hardship and poverty. His mother moved from New York to Michigan to keep him away from bad influences, thus allowing him to complete high school. He later moved back to New York at the age of 17. In 1997, Wu-Tang Clan signed him at the age of 19, and his debut album Heist of the Century in 1998. The album was a success in the underground hip-hop scene at the time. Between 2008 and 2009 La The Darkman released two mixtapes that he recorded with DJ Drama. It was released on his own label. La The Darkman is featured heavily on Vanilla Ice's 2001 album Bi-Polar. As of early 2011 DJ Drama has stated on his Twitter that he is no longer affiliated with LA The Darkman. The source of the beef is not clear. DJ Green Lantern has produced LA The Darkman's most recent mixtape entitled Embassy Envasion.
