History
The school opened in 1910 as
Berry Hill Secondary Modern. The school grew steadily as other small secondary schools closed, with students arriving from
Joys Green and
Lydbrook; to accommodate the extra students the school was largely composed of wooden sheds.
Berry Hill grew to become one of the largest secondary modern schools in Gloucestershire. In 1985 re-organisation took place and
Lakers School was formed.
Facilities
The school has around 800 pupils. It is on the same site as the
Royal Forest of Dean College with which it shares sports facilities. The School has access to many things such as a 400m track, swimming pool and several sports halls. The school has also been redesigned inside by creating the new Business and Enterprising Area and new Boys Toilets. The school is smaller than average.
Lakers School is a school equipped with learning features like data projectors in every room. The school has several buildings like the Main Block, Ten Block, Hopewell and the new Sports Hall. As it sits on the same campus as RFDC and the Forest of Dean Gymnastic Centre, it has very good sport links.
