Lakeside High School is a
public high school located in
Evans, Georgia.
History
Construction on the school was completed in 1988, and the first classes at the school started session in the fall of that same year. The first students to attend and graduate from Lakeside were mainly transfers from nearby
Evans High School. Lakeside's football stadium, Panther Stadium, was later added to the campus adjacent to Lakeside Middle School in 1995.
Lakeside High is located in Columbia County, one of the fastest-growing counties in Georgia. It reached 2,500 enrolled students only five years after its construction. It made up of students from Riverside Middle School and Lakeside Middle School. There are 27 offered AP classes as of 2007.Lakeside High won the Georgia School of Excellence award in 1993, 1995, and 2005.In 2008, a new middle school, Stallings Island was constructed and now it, instead of Riverside Middle, feeds into Lakeside High.
Traffic Problems
Being located directly adjacent to Lakeside Middle School, there was heavy congestion during the start and end of school hours. This problem was solved by offsetting the start times of the two schools by ten minutes. The high school started ten minutes later than the middle school. Also, a traffic officer was positioned outside the school every morning and afternoon to direct traffic in and out of the school complex.
