The Album of the Year is one the most prestigious Latin Grammy Award and has been awarded every year since the 2000. The award is presented to the artists, producers, the engineers and/or mixers and the mastering engineers. Years reflect the year in which the Latin Grammy Awards were handed out. The official guidelines are as follows: For Vocal or Instrumental Albums. Albums must contain at least 51% playing time of newly recorded material. Award to the Artist(s) and to the Album Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s), and Mastering Engineer(s) if other than the Artist.. Note that Albums of previously released recordings (such compilations) are not eligible for the award.

Alejandro Sanz is biggest winner in this category with three victories (2001, 2002 and 2004). Shakira became the first female winner in 2006 and Calle 13 became the first urban act to win this award in 2009 and the only, so far, to be ever nominated for the award.

Years reflect the year in which the Latin Grammy Awards were awarded, for music released in the previous year.
