List of countries without political parties

This is a list of countries and dependencies with a permanent population that have no legal political parties. Some have opposition groups that operate clandestinely.

• — Political "parties" are banned, but political "associations" are allowed. The media, however, usually refer to these formations as "parties".
• — There is no legislation regulating the formation of political parties, nor is there a law banning political parties in Kuwait. Given this gap in legislation, political parties, in their formal sense, do not exist de facto. Political organisations -behaving fully as parties- do exist, and are very active; filling this gap in legislature. These political parties are not formally recognised.
