Eight different batsmen have scored 400 runs or more in a single innings in first-class cricket on ten separate occasions., from Cricinfo, The Wisden Group. Retrieved 16 May 2006. The first quadruple century was achieved by Archie MacLaren of Lancashire against Somerset in 1895, and the most recent was scored by Brian Lara of the West Indies against England in 2004—the only quadruple century to be made in a Test match. Lara and Bill Ponsford of Australia are the only batsmen to reach 400 more than once.
